NSS Activities

  • Creating awareness about Greening of Motherland, Van Mahotsav was celebrated by the NSS Unit on 11th August, 2023 to mark the plantation drive wherein the students were given saplings to plant within and outside the college premises.
  • On 28th August, 2023 the NSS Unit of the college in collaboration with NGO ‘Switch for Change Foundation’ started initiative to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Plastics by collecting all sorts of junked plastics like Milk Sachets, Mineral Water Bottle, Grocery Bags, Empty Plastic Cans, and Containers etc. The objective of the campaign was to create awareness about the hazards of plastic. Director, Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal made the students aware that how plastic like a parasite is causing downfall of our environment and is penetrating the lives of humans and animals by causing them severe harm.
  • National Sports Day was celebrated on 29th August, 2023 to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Indian Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand. The Day was dedicated to the great athlete who thrice won Gold Medal for Indian Olympics and was also known as ‘The Wizard of Hockey’. Director Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal encouraged the students to take active participation in all kind of sports and make it an integral part of their lives.
  • NSS Unit celebrated National Nutrition Week from 1st- 7th September, 2023 on the theme ‘Promoting Health and Well being’ wherein students were acquainted with the benefits of good Nutrition as a part of healthy lifestyle. The volunteers prepared nutritious and tasty dishes and created awareness regarding healthy lifestyle skills.
  • “Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies” the theme for this year’s International Literacy Day celebrated on 8thSeptember, 2022 was discussed with the students of the college making them aware about the importance of quality education for all. The volunteers distributed stationery items amongst the poor children and even made them familiarize with the significance of Literacy.
  • On 14th September, 2023 the NSS Unit of the college organized a lecture on ‘Road Safety & Cyber Crime Awareness’ to inculcate in the students the responsibility of protecting themselves and the society from the injury resulting from road accidents and frauds committed by cyber criminal. Safety instructor Mr. Pankaj alongwith Ms. Iqbal Kaur, Safety Coordinator from Children Traffic Park delivered a lecture and urged the students to adopt safe road practices and take precautions to avoid falling prey to cyber crimes.
  • NSS Unit in collaboration with Municipal Corporation Ludhiana under Indian cleanliness league 2.0 organized various events from 16th September – 2nd October, 2023.
  • On 16th September, 2023 Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal, Director flagged off a Cycle Rally for making Ludhiana a garbage free city. The Volunteers motivated the city people to make small changes in their routine habit, starting with segregation of wet and dry garbage and avoided littering trash.
  • On 20th September, 2023 the NSS volunteers took pledge to conserve water by checking its wastage and irrational use. Also to minimise the use of Single- use- Plastic items a poster making competition on ‘Say No to Plastic’ was organised where Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal, Director apprised the students about how the contamination of environment due to non – biodegradable substances is injurious for human health and well being of animals. *NSS Unit also celebrated the NSS Day on 24th September, 2023 with great fervour and enthusiasm where the students were motivated to take Swatchtta Pledge to keep their vicinity and city clean. Continuing with the events on 26th September, 2023 Ms. Jasleen Kaur, Assistant Prof. in Biotechnology delivered a lecture making the students aware about Waste Management and gave them useful tips to dispose off, reduce, reuse and prevent waste.
  • Continuing with the events, a declamation contest was also organized on 29th September, 2023 wherein 30 volunteers presented their views on the theme ‘Environmental Safety and Harmful Effects of Pollution’ to throw light upon the adverse effects of pollution on humans and how to make the planet a beautiful place to live in.
  • whereas in response to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call for a Nationwide cleanliness drive on 1st October, 2023. The NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the ‘Shramdaan’ for cleanliness programme as part of the Swachhata-Hi-Seva campaign under the Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath initiative of Prime Minister.
  • Also the end of the events of the campaign was marked with the Swachh Bharat Mission launched on 2nd October, 2023 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti wherein Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal, Director alongwith Dr. (Mrs.) Rakhi Malhotra, Principal, College faculty members and students took part in various events like Swachhata Race wherein the teachers and students took active participation. Also Sanitation Drive was organized where students cleaned their classrooms, parking area and various labs of the college. Also events like Paper Reading Competition, Swachhta Geet competition, Tree Plantation and Poster Making competition were organized. Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal, Director motivated the students to take a pledge for life time to make their country and nation garbage free and water secure as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our Nation.

  • On 12th January, 2024 the NSS Volunteers of the college celebrated 27th National Youth Day by taking Youth Pledge. The volunteers also downloaded certificates awarded by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. 80 volunteers attended the live telecast of the speech delivered by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi during the inaugural function of National Youth Festival 2024, Nashik.
  • An awareness drive was carried out by the NSS Volunteers in the college campus on the theme Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye on 13th March, 2024.
  • NSS Volunteers observed Martyrs’ Day on 22nd March, 2024 and paid tribute to the three brave soldiers of India: Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. A documentary on the life story of Veer Bhagat Singh was shown to the volunteers.
  • Taking a stride towards Viksit Bharat, 201 NSS Volunteers got themselves registered on MY BHARAT PORTAL on 5th January , 2024.
  • A 7-day special NSS Camp had its commencement today at Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana on 1ST March, 2024. The theme of the camp was “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan : Meri Mati Mera Desh. As many as 81 NSS Volunteers have enrolled for the NSS Camp. NSS theme songs was also sung by the NSS Volunteers. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal, Director Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana. She emphasized the true application of thematic concern of the camp i.e. “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan : Meri Mati Mera Desh”. She motivated and also inspired the NSS volunteers to gird up their lions for the betterment of the society and promotion of our culture keeping in mind the conservation of environment in real sense. NSS volunteers also took pledge to uphold the objectives and the motto of NSS. Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Rakhi Malhotra appreciated the NSS Volunteers for joining the NSS and encouraged them to involve in NSS Camp. The camp commenced with the plantation drive symbolizing the participants’ commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
