COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The institution offers 17 Post Graduate, 9 Under Graduate, 8 Vocational Diplomas and 12 Add-on Courses.
  2. College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal was felicitated with the honour of ‘Sports Promoter’ at the Panjab University Annual Prize Distribution Function on 27th May, 2018. In addition, an ace sports star Gagandeep Kaur of B.Sc.-6th semester of the college was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 18,000/-.
  3. The college bagged 185 Top Ten University Positions in the Panjab University Semester Examinations 2016-17.
  4. The sports champions of the college clinched 30 medals including 6 Gold, 14 Silver and 10 Bronze medals in the session 2017-2018 at various tournaments in diverse fields such as baseball, athletics, judo, softball, badminton, wrestling, wushu, kickboxing, ball badminton, weightlifting, canoeing, water sports, kayaking and power lifting at International, National, State, District, University and Inter University levels.
  5. Our swift athlete Vipanjeet Kaur of B.A.-5th Semester made the college proud by being honoured with the title of ‘Best Athlete of Panjab University’.
  6. The illustrious students of the college outnumbered others at the Panjab University Inter-Zonal and Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival wherein 48 students clinched the first three positions respectively in various competitions.
  7. The students of our college brought home a huge array of prizes at the various Inter College Competitions held in this session. The cozy symbiosis of the students resulted in clinching a whopping 100 plus prizes till date in the different disciplines of Music, Fine Arts, Home Science, Poetical Recitation, Debate, Creative Writing, Elocution, Declamation, Quiz, Dance etc.
  8. 19 college students made their mark by receiving scholarship around one lakh rupees under various schemes for their exemplary achievements.

The college has an imposing high-tech four-storeyed Science Block, four storeyed Fashion Designing Block and a four-storeyed academic wing housing the Commerce, Management, Computer Science, English, PGDMC, Punjabi, History, Political Science, Sociology faculties, four-storeyed block for IGNOU Study Centre, four-storeyed Cafeteria building comprising of Fine Arts and Music Labs and three-storeyed Fashion Designing block.
  10. All classrooms have been equipped with smart interactive boards and slide projectors.
  11. The college takes pride in its state-of-the-art Auditorium, an air-conditioned Guest Room, air-conditioned Luncheon Hall and an air-cooled Reading Hall.
  12. The college infrastructure is bedecked with a 200 seated centrally air-conditioned Conference Hall. The hall has a digital bidirectional conference system with full HD projectors.
  13. 171 Class rooms, 51 Science Labs, 15 Fashion Designing Labs, 3 Cosmetology Labs, 9 Computer Labs, 2 Music Labs, a Dance Lab, a Fine Arts Lab, Museums of Botany and Zoology, 4 Generators of 200 KW, 160 KW, 160 KW and 82 KW capacity are other assets of the college.
  14. The college offers computerized Library to catalog and track the circulation of more than 30700 books, 80 plus Magazines, and 25 Newspapers to satiate the intellectual urge of the learners.
  15. A modern Hostel that accommodates 800 students and provides air condition facility to approximately 250 students is equipped with 150 rooms, 5 Reading Halls, 3 Recreation Halls, air-cooled Dining Hall, Cafeteria and modern stylish washrooms.

  17. 9 multimedia labs are equipped with LCD projectors, high gain screens and computers.
  18. A hi-tech air-conditioned server room with 6 servers, LAN, Domain Controller, Additional Domain Controller, LINUX Proxy Server, Anti-Virus Admin Console and 219 plus computers, in all, working round the clock for monitoring and managing all the routine activities, including intra-hall and intra-net facilities with a view to implement the concept of corporate sector and paperless office work.
  19. The college runs IGNOU Study Centre–2206 offering 204 courses. It is the only centre in the Punjab Region marked to have an EDUSAT installed for tele-conferencing.
  20. Free education, free boarding and lodging is provided to the meritorious students in academic, cultural and sports activities.
  21. Gurbir Singh, President, Guru Nanak Education Trust was the Hon’ble Chief Guest at ‘Alumni Meet’ on 16th February, 2018 wherein 28 old students of the college who have attained great heights in career and are making valuable contribution in the society were honoured.
  22. The Convocation-2016 was held on 17th February, 2018. Dr. Harish Khare, Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune was the Hon’ble Chief Guest on the occasion who conferred degrees on 424 Postgraduate and 664 Undergraduate students in various disciplines. In addition, 19 students were felicitated with Roll of Honour and 60 students were awarded with College Colour in academic and para-academic activities.
  23. Reminiscing the prodigious legacy of the venerable precursor and patron of the college, Late Justice Gurnam Singh, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, a Commemoration Function was held with great zeal and enthusiasm on 26th February, 2018 at the occasion of his 119th Birth Anniversary.
  24. Annual Athletic Meet was set off on 27th February, 2018 and concluded on 28th February, 2018. Prof.(Dr.) S.S. Mahal, Trustee, GNET presided over the opening ceremony of Annual Athletic Meet and S. Ravibir Singh, Trustee GNET and President, Chandigarh Golf Club was the Chief Guest on the second day of the event.
  25. To showcase the creative potential of the young designers of the college, Annual Fiesta: Fashion Flora 2018 was held on 3rd March, 2018. S. Gurbir Singh, President, GNET presided over the function wherein splendid and exquisite collections of the budding designers were exhibited in 54 rounds.
  26. The annual exhibition ‘Fashion Fest 2018’ was organized by Department of Fashion Designing and Fine Arts from 20th -22nd March, 2018 to display the creative handiwork of the students.
  27. Apart from this, each teaching department of the college organized a minimum of three seminars/extension lectures in their respective fields with a view to provide quality education to young aspirants in a stimulating environment of independent thinking and innovation in various disciplines.
  28. Trips and Tours to different places of the country were organized.
  29. Newsletter ‘Amazing Grace’ and magazine ‘Kesar Kiari’ provide opportunity to budding writers.
  30. Festivals like Lohri, Teej, Teachers’ Day, Gurpurab, Welcome Functions and Farewell Functions were organized.
