TEEJ FESTIVAL
It was a festive atmosphere at Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana as the staff and the students dressed in traditional dresses, celebrated the festival of Teej on 18th August, 2026. Director Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal enlightened the students on socio – economic importance of Teej and stressed on the need to remain in touch with the culture of Punjab and to preserve it. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Rakhi Malhotra accorded a warm welcome to the Guests and the students. The variety of stalls including Nail – Art, Bangles, Jewellery, Purses, Cosmetics and Mehndi made the function look more natural. Students enjoyed eating traditional sweets like “Kheer” and “Malpoorah”. Various traditional articles like Bagh, Phulkari, Charkha, Pakhis, Chhaj, Daris were also displayed on the stalls. The campus displayed a unique view of its Punjabi culture and rich heritage. Colourfully dressed girls had a gala time on specially installed ‘Peengh’ singing song on Teej and Sawan. Various competitions including Giddha, Ms. Punjaban, Mehndi, Hair style (Middi Gundana), Charkha Chaki were organized.
The results of various competitions as follows:
The Giddha performance by Arts was adjudged to be the best and second position was bagged by Commerce stream and the third position was secured by Science.
In Mehndi competition Pooja (B.Sc.(FD)-II) was declared first Gurleen Kaur, B.A.-III) was declared second and Sonali (M.Sc.-I) won third prize. In traditional Punjabi Hair styling contest the first prize was won by Ramanpreet Kaur (B.Com-II) and second and third prize by Tamana (B.Sc.(FD)-I and Prerna (B.Com-III respectively. In Nail Art Competition Simran, was declared first Jasdeep Kaur was declared second and Manjot Kaur won third prize.
Gurmeet Kaur, M.Com(BE) was declared Ms. Punjaban and Jasmeen Kaur, B.A.-III were the first and second runner up respectively.
Japleen Kaur was declared Giddhian Di Rani.
Gurkanwal Kaur, B.B.A.-III won the prize for the best traditional Punjabi dress. Director Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal and Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Rakhi Malhotra gave away the prizes to the winners and hoped that spirit of joy which has been initiated with this occasion shall continue to exist throughout the session.
