Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana, celebrated National Sports Day under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” on August 29th, 2026, to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
The celebration aimed to promote a culture of fitness, leadership and sportsmanship among students, sportspersons and faculty, in alignment with the nationwide concepts of Tribute, Play and Move. The Department of Physical Education organised various sports activities and competitions, including Hockey, Softball, Badminton and Tug of War, with enthusiastic participation from the students. The day was marked by a series of engaging events that highlighted the importance of fitness and sports in everyday life.
Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal, Director, GNGC, GNCH and GNIFD, highly appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to actively participate in sports and other co curricular activities. She emphasised that sports play a vital role in the overall development by promoting physical fitness, mental strength, discipline, leadership and team spirit, motivating the students to maintain a healthy balance between academics and sports and encouraged them to strive for excellence in every sphere of life.
Dr. (Mrs.) Rakhi Malhotra, Principal, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and encouraged them to continue taking part in sports and other activities for their overall development.
The event proved to be a meaningful celebration of fitness, sportsmanship and the true spirit of sports.
