DEGREE COURSES (SEMESTER SYSTEM)

In adherence to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Panjab University is introducing a revised Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP). This is based on the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) guidelines, with a student-centric focus, flexible choice-based credit system, and a multidisciplinary approach.

*Note: In the courses with limited seats, the admission would be done strictly on Merit basis.

[1] B.Sc. (F.D.) / B.Sc. (F.D.)(Hons.) / B.Sc.(F.D.)(Hons.) with Research – I

  • Admission to first year of this course shall be open to candidates with atleast 50% marks (45% marks for SC & ST category candidates) in 10+2 examination from CBSE/Punjab School Education Board or any other equivalent examination or from recognized board with English as compulsory subject.
  • Students who have passed B.Sc.–I / II are eligible to seek admission to B. Sc.–II/III respectively.

[2] B.Sc. / B.Sc.(Hons.) / B.Sc.(Hons.) with Research-I in the subject of Physics / Chemistry / Maths / Zoology / Microbiology / Biochemistry / Botany / Industrial Chemistry / Computer Science

  • A student joining the above said course must have obtained atleast 35% marks in the aggregate of the qualifying examination of recognized / University / Board / Council or any other examination recognized by the university as equivalent.
  • The candidate must have studied science subject such as Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Physics.
  • The student should have passed 10+2 examination with English.

[3] B.Sc. (Biotechnology)(Hons.) / (Bioinformatics)(Hons.) / B.Sc. (Biotechnology)(Hons.) with Research / (Bioinformatics)(Hons.) with Research – I

  • Students who have passed the 10+2 examination with atleast 50% marks in the subject of Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Maths as their subjects from CBSE/Punjab School Education Board or any other equivalent examination or from recognized board can seek admission to B.Sc.–I (Hons.).
  • Students who have passed B. Sc.–I/II are eligible to seek admission to B. Sc.–II/III, respectively.
  • The student should have passed 10+2 examination with English.

[4] B.Com. / B.Com. (Hons.) / B.Com (Hons.) with Research - I

Admission to the first semester of the said course shall be open to a person who has passed one of the following examinations conducted by a recognized Board/Council/University. 

(a) 10+2 examination or B.Com-Part-I (Old scheme) of Panjab University with three of the following subjects securing at least 45 percent marks in aggregate:

(i) Commerce (or theory of commerce or foundation course in commerce)
(ii) Accountancy (or book keeping and accountancy)
(iii) Economics
(iv) Business Organisation (or Business Management or Theory and Practice of Management). Insurance (or General Insurance or Life Insurance)
(v) Banking and Trade
(vi) Commercial Geography
(vii) Office Management and Secretarial Practice (or Office Organization and Management)
(viii) Mercantile Law (or any Company Law) Auditing
(ix) Typewriting and Stenography / Computers (for typewriting)
(x) Any other subject as per the list prescribed by Panjab University, Chandigarh.

(b) 10+2 examinations with at least two of the subjects mentioned in (a) securing at least 50% marks in aggregate

(c) 10+2 examinations which does not cover in (a & b) securing atleast 55% marks.

(d) Any other examination recognized by the University as equivalent to (a) or (b) or (c) as given above with requisite percentage of marks given under each clause.

2. Subject to the reservation made by the University, the admission shall be on merit. The merit for this purpose shall be determined on the basis of the score of a candidate to be computed as follows:

(i) Percentage of marks in the qualifying examination;

(ii) Add score of 2 for each of the subjects passed from the subjects referred in 1 (a) not exceeding 8 in total.

Explanation :- In case of a compartment candidate, eligibility shall be determined by including the marks of the subject in which the candidate has been placed under compartment.

3. The candidate should have passed the subject of English in 10+2 examination. In case, a student has passed her 10+2 examination from a Board/University where passing the subject of English is not necessary she will be granted admission on provisional basis and will have to pass English as a deficient subject, from the parent board in two consecutive chances subsequent to her admission failing which her admission and result will stand cancelled.

4. Students who have passed B.Com–I/II are eligible to seek admission to B.Com–II/ III respectively.

[5] B.C.A / B.C.A (Hons.) / B.C.A (Hons.) with Research - I

The candidates with the following eligibility conditions can apply for this course.

1. A candidate who has passed the 10+2 in any discipline from any recognized Board/University or has passed an equivalent examination approved by P.U. syndicate with atleast 50% marks in the aggregate of all subjects (including the marks obtained by her in the subject of Compartment, Theory and Practical/s taken together) taken up by her at the +2 examinations.

2. Admission in 1st semester of the said course is provisionally subject to her qualifying the deficient subject of English from the parent Board/Body/Council/University in one consecutive chance in the Supplementary Examination held in July/August, subsequent to his/her admission, failing which his/her admission to BCA-I, BCA-I (Hons.), BCA-I (Hons.) with research Ist Semester and the result for the examination shall automatically stand cancelled.

3. The candidate should have passed Mathematics as one of the subjects in matriculation.

4. Students who have passed I & II Semester are eligible to seek admission in BCA–II/III, respectively.

Note: 5% weightage will be given for subject of Mathematics / Statistics or equivalent to the candidate who studied the subject at 10+2 level at the time of admission in BCA-I, BCA-I (Hons.), BCA-I (Hons.) with research Ist Semester.

[6] B.B.A. / B.B.A. (Hons.) / B.B.A. (Hons.) with Research - I

Candidates possessing the following qualification are eligible for seeking admission to 1st Year of BBA / BBA(Hons.) / BBA(Hons.) with Research:

1. She should have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized Board/ University with atleast 50% marks or any other examination recognized by P.U. syndicate as equivalent to it with requisite percentage of marks.

2. The candidate should have passed the subject of English in 10+2 examination. In case, a student has passed her 10+2 examination from a Board/University where passing the subject of English is not necessary she will be granted admission on provisional basis and will have to pass English as a deficient subject, from the parent board in two consecutive chances subsequent to her admission failing which her admission and result will stand cancelled.

3. Subject to the reservation made by the university, the admission shall be on merit.

4. The students who have passed BBA-I/II are eligible to seek admission in BBA-II/III respectively.

[7] B.A. / B.A. (Hons.) / B.A. (Hons.) with Research – I

1. A candidate who has passed one of the following examination with English as one of the subjects shall be eligible to join the 1st Semester of the above said course.

(i) B.A./B.A.(Hons.) Part I (Old Scheme) / Pre-Medical / Pre-Engg. Intermediate Arts / Science / Agriculture examination of Panjab University;

(ii) +2 examination under 10+2+3 system of education of a recognised University / Board / Council;

(iii) Prak / Shastri / Vishard examination with Compulsory English;

(iv) any other examination recognised by the University as equivalent to (i),(ii) or (iii) above.

2. However, a person who has not qualified English as one of the subjects at the +2 examination, shall be eligible to join B.A./B.A.(Hons.) 1st Semester provisionally subject to his/her qualifying the deficient subject of English from the parent Board / Body / Council / University in two consecutive chances subsequent to her admission, failing which his/her admission to B.A.(Hons.) 1st Semester and the result for the examination shall automatically stand cancelled.

3. Candidate who have passed 10+2 examinations from recognized institutions of States outside Punjab shall be granted admission only after they submit their Original Migration Certificate duly attested by the concerned District Education Officer and Eligibility Certificate issued by Panjab University, Chandigarh.

4. The students who have passed BA-I/II are eligible to seek admission in BA-II/III respectively.

[8] General Guidelines for admission to (B.A / B.Sc. / B.Com. / B.C.A. / B.B.A.)(Hons.) / (Hons.) with Research - I Semester (Under Compartment)

A candidate who has been placed under compartment at 10+2 examination conducted by a Board/Body/Council/ University in India shall be eligible to seek admission to the First Semester of said course course if she fulfils the following conditions:-

(i) She should have been placed in compartment in one subject only:

(ii) She should have obtained at least 20% marks in the subject in which she had been placed in compartment.

(iii) She should have obtained the requisite percentage of marks in the aggregate of examination as laid down in the relevant regulations:

B.A. – 35%, B.Sc. – 35%, {B.Com., B.C.A., B.B.A. (as per the relevant regulations)}

The admission of the candidate with a compartment as indicated above shall be provisional and will be confirmed only after she has cleared the compartment subject in the supplementary examination held in July/August on or before the last date for admission with late fee with the permission of Vice Chancellor, provided the seat/s is/are available. Otherwise, her provisional admission to the course shall stand cancelled.

Important Note: Syllabi and subject combinations for first year of UG Courses (Session 2024-2025) are subject to change as per the latest instructions released by Panjab University, Chandigarh according to National Education Policy 2020.
